Season Review...

  • Season review:
    • Pembroke have achieved so much this season, from a 9-0 thrashing of Tarxien to a goalless draw against Mgarr to end the season in 2nd place. A protest by Tarxien may have dented Pembroke’s chance to go 1st in the league, but it failed to dent the players spirits who replied with a 9 goal winning spree against the same team! A promotion to 1st division also eluded us after a hard fought 3-0 loss in the playoff vs Sliema!
Injuries and personal loss may have marred what is so far one the best season for pembroke, but team spirit, unity, friendship and a bit of heart proved to be a major factor in the teams success.
  • Player comments and Coach's Comments:
    • Ruth Debono (GK): This season I felt that we improve so much and our team is building good team work. The players are gaining more experience and getting more comfortable with the ball. In my part as the goalkeper I am learning with every match how to communicate with the players and also how to time the ball. Though we still have to improve a bit in our fitness, we have become more calm when it comes to building up play to score goals.
    • Charlie Borg (ex. Coach): Now that the season is over, one has to analyze what was done as a team. It was not a bad year but I strongly believe we could have done a bit better. When you look at all the games, we won ten, two games draw, lost two but one of the games was lost after a stupid protest but these things in football happen and we have to be careful with our administration. Our biggest win was VS Tarxien, the result being 9-0 and our least win was VS Kirkop, the result being 3-0. On the whole we almost achieved our aim to go to the first division but it shows that we have to work much harder to improve on our game as when we play VS Gozo and Sliema it showed that our fitness needs to be improved. I must say VS Sliema we were very unlucky and the officials did not help with their decisions but still, I know exactly what needs to be done to improve for next year. Now one has to see who is going to be running the team next season. I would like to thank all the players for backing me up in good times and hard times. One has to acknowledge the importance that Amber gave to the team. She became the top scorer of our league. Mind you, it could not have been done without the effort of all the team who supplied the passes to her, mainly by the experienced Ingrid. In defence, we had unpassable Jackie, Justine and Leona. Both were magnificent in their roles. Mel who had to play in different roles, was the best improved in my opinion. Then, we you start looking at all the team Ruth with eleven games in hand without conceiving a goal. Connie with her experience and Alexia with the urge to keep on learning. Dorianne leading the team , and Dorita whom without her, I don't know what we can actually do as she does so much work. Lee who has done a lot of work on our website but due to a busy life could not always keep it updated. Graziella was one of our unlucky ones that got injured and had to miss a bit of games. Lilian, I must say, is one that tries to give her 100%. Janelle always tried to give her utmost. Steph and Olivia (Tronky) were always with us though they did not play in all the games. I must thank the young guns because when we needed them they came to help, Cassar Diamond and Annabelle and most of all our Russian connection Anna. Thank you again for a wonderful year.

Review still pending comments by the team captain and Dorita!
