1st league game 08/09 Our formation: Ruth Debono, Dorrianne Bonello, Melanie Chircop, Shana Debono, Justine Zammit, Jannelle Galea, Marika Mizzi, Lilian Cremona, Leeanne Wood, Kaylee Mifsud (Dorita Agius) (Naomi Borg), Janice Chircop. Result: 3 - 0 Our debut for this season was against one of the newcomers Marsa, in which we wanted to prove to ourselves that we are improving and to show that we are worthwhile opponents who will not give up without a fight. Unfortunately however after the first few minutes of the game our coach had to leave the pitch due to personal and family reasons, thus all the directions had to be given from our assistant coach Noel, with the help of Coach Alfred Debono. Throughout the game we proved to be a better side than our rivals. In the 20th minute Lilian opened the score, and the team never looked back. The first half ended with a score of 1-0. In the second half Dorita Agius substituted Kaylee Mifsud, after which in the first few minutes we had more than 3 opportunities in which to increase our lead. Marsa didn’t go further than the half way line. After just 10 minutes Leeanne’s shot from outside the goalkeepers area was deflected with a soft touch by one of our players and made us 2-0. 5 minutes after Dorita was substituted by Naomi Borg due to injury. We continued to defend our result and succedeed in denying Marsa’s forwards from penetrating our defence, Shana, Dorianne, Justine and Melanie. The Stadium came alive thanks to the supporters from both Pembroke and Marsa, who gave both teams much support throughout the most of the game. In the last few minutes of the game, after some excellent work by our Midfield, they provided a perfect cross to Naomi who not only controlled the ball perfectly but proceeded to finish off the move with a fantastic shot to finish off the game with a score of 3 - 0.
