Our Fourth match of the season was against Hamrun at the usual luxol stadium. The first seven minutes of the match passed without offering any interesting action from either side. In the 8th minute the real action began with the very first shot towards the Hamrun goalkeeper by our Left back Melanie Chircop, which was saved without any difficulty by their goalkeeper Christine who is currently on loan to Hamrun from Pembroke.

 

In the 11th minute another good action by our players this time by our Central Defender and Captain Shana Debono who with a personal action managed to deliver a very good cross, to find Lillian Cremona unmarked & ready to head the ball directly into Hamrun`s Goalkeeper hands for a very easy safe.

 

The First goal of the night came In the 18th minute courtesy of  Dorianne Bonello left her fullback position and took a well placed shot/Lob towards goal from near the half way line. Everyone including Hamrun Keeper stood stunned as the ball bounce over the goalkeeper and finished in the back of net to make the score Pembroke 1 Hamrun 0.

 

In the 25th minute another good move by our players ended up in a very confused action in front of Hamrun`s goal, but we can remark that this action finished with a good save by Hamrun`s goalkeeper.

 

In 27th minute, after a brilliant wall pass which was started by our midfielder Janelle Galea, Lilian Cremona broke through Hamrun's defence and came one on one with the goalkeeper. It looked like there was a foul after the goaler tackled Lillian and she tried to go past, but the referee applied the advantage rule and the ball finished in Naomi Borg's feet who applied the finishing touch make the score 2-0 For Pembroke.

 

In the 35th minute we had a good counter-attack move from Pembroke`s duo Lilian and Lee. After a personal run on the flank Lilian managed to deliver a perfect through pass, which was very well collected by Leeanne Wood (Lee) who struck what seemed to be a very well address shot which unfortunately ended up going just wideof the  left post defended by Hamrun.

 

The last action for the first half was conducted once again by Pembroke`s Winger Lilian Cremona who looked to be very comfortable in her position. Once again after a good run she managed to turn Hamrun`s fullback defender and deliver a good cross in the middle of the box this time not finding anyone of our players ready to collect the ball. The first half ended with this action and with the result reading Pembroke Athleta 2 Hamrun 0.

 

The second half started without offering any interesting moves & actions at least for the first ten minutes.

 

A double substitution in the 12th minute done by our Coach Charlie Borg, involved Naomi Borg who got injured during play got replaced by Emma Fenech Soler & Kaylee Mifsud who also got injured during play being replaced by Sarah Cassar Diamond

 

In the 20th minute we could see another good move by our Duo Lillian/Lee, a very good combination on the flank, but not concluded in the best way possible as the ball was cleared by the Hamrun defence.

 

In the 21st minute yet another good action by Pembroke this time finished with a well struck shot by Sarah Cassar Diamond which ended up over the bar.

 

Seven minutes later this Lillian showed us her skills and speed with another personal action down the flank, converged to the middle approached the box and struck a fine shot which finished very close the right post defended by Hamrun`s keeper.

 

Just two minutes later in the 30th minute Sarah Cassar Diamond tried her luck once again with another shot yet again saved by Hamrun`s goalkeeper Christine without many difficulties.

 

In the 31st minute our striker Lee covered the open space left by Lilian down on the left flank, managed to get the ball, crossed but our midfielders were not in time to cover the empty space left by our striker.

 

Approaching the 33rd minute another substitution was done by our coach, this time our Goalkeeper Ruth Debono and i must take this opportunity to say well done as she is showing improvements both in positioning and in communicating with the defence, was replaced by our 2nd keeper Simone Daccache.

 

In the 34th we had some good defending from our central defender Justine Zammit, who showed very well positioning, good marking and very good ball distribution.

 

The last Action of the match came in the 38th minute of the second half after some brilliant wall passing by Janelle Galea and Lillian. Our striker Lee Wood tried her luck after receiving a perfect pass from Lillain, with a very good strike from outside the box, well directed to the left top corner of the goal, ending up in the back of the net for what is known as a picture perfect goal. Lee was then replaced by Christine just minutes after the goal. This concluded a very exciting match, bravely played by our set of players and another good win by Pembroke...... Pembroke Atletha vs Hamrun 3-0
