Our Fifth match of the season which was played at the usual premises, this being the Luxol Stadium in St Andrews was against Lija/Iklin. The first ten minutes passed without offering any interesting action except for the occasional moves from pembroke. In the 11th minute we had the very first attack of the match by Naomi Borg who took the ball and started a personal counter-attack which ended up being cleared by the Lija/Iklin defence.

The first goal arrived In the 15th minute. Once again Naomi stole the ball after a mistake by the Lija/Iklin defence, and sprinted towards the penalty box leaving the defence far behind. She then came one on one with the goalkeeper and struck a well placed shot to open the score 1-0 to Pembroke.

In the 16th minute another opportunity to increase the score straight away came along when Lilian Cremona took a shot at goal, which started of from a personal counter-attack by Melanie Chircop from defence.

In the 21st minute Lija\Iklin had their first shot of the game and the very first test of the match for our goalkeeper Ruth Debono. A brilliantly taken freekick, well directed towards our goal which was taken by Tiziana Fenech produced a fine save by our goalkeeper.

In the 31st minute we had another counter-attack on the right flank by Naomi Borg, who converged to the middle but saw her shot unfortunately edging past the left goal post.
Nine minutes before halftime, Brenda scored her first league goal and made the score 2-0 for Pembroke after a perfectly worked wall pass and through ball by Lilian Cremona.

In the 40th minute we had another good counter attack by Pembroke, this time by Lee, who was given a perfect through ball at half pitch and ran towards the Lija/Iklin penatly box. After sprinting towards goal she came one on one with keeper and took a well placed low-shot which went past the keeper. However a goal was not to be as Lee saw her shot ending up hitting the right post and denying her a chance to increasing the gap between the two sides.

The last action of the first half came from Lija/Iklin. Their attacker managed to get past our right back Melanie but when she came face to face with our goalkeeper Ruth who closed her down, tried to take a quick shot which luckily for us ended out wide.

The first half ended with the result being Pembroke Athleta 2-0 Lija/Iklin.

The second half started with an immediate substitution being made by our coach Charles Borg. This substitution saw Kaylee replacing an exhausted Stephanie Cassar. We must take this opportunity to say that Steph did a very good job in right midfield considering that this is not her preferred position.

In the 53rd minute our goalkeeper Ruth Debono showed us all what a great goalkeeper she is going to be as Lija/Iklin started pressing and accelerating more than they did in the first half. In fact the first action of the second half came from Lija/Iklin with a very fast counter-attack which was brilliantly saved by our goalkeeper.

Just a minute later, Naomi Borg stole a very good ball from Lija/Iklin goalkeeper, went past the defence and took a shot, but was cleared off the line by a Lija/Iklin defender.

In the 56th minute Lija/Iklin showed some good skills by conducting a good counter-attack which came to an end when our right back defender Melanie Chircop managed to intercept the ball to give us back possession.

Another counter-attack, this time by Pembroke took place in the 62nd minute. This time Lija`s goalkeeper  had to leave her goal area to clear the ball.

Another good save by Lija`s goalkeeper came just a minute later after a good shot by our veteran player Lilian Cremona, from inside the penalty area.

In the 65th minute Lija took another good shot towards our goal, but was once again courageously saved by our goalkeeper Ruth Debono.

A fast counter attack by Lilian in the 66th minute, who tried her luck with another tentative run towards the Lija/Iklin goal was once again denied by a good save by their goalkeeper.
The best save of the match came 2 minutes later, when Lija conducted another good counter attack, and struck a fine shot, but once again Ruth showed her class by offering a superior save to deny Lija again.

The result changed just minute later, when Pembroke were awarded a corner. The ball was struck perfectly into the Lija penalty box by our captain Shana Debono. Lija goalkeeper’s timing was completely off which resulted in the ball going over her head to finish right into Lilian`s feet who finished off the move with a well place shot into an empty net to make the score 3-0 for Pembroke.

Another good action by Pembroke duo Lilian and Janelle in the 73rd minute was concluded by a fine shot by Janelle, which was saved calmly by Lija`s goalkeeper.
The last action of the match was conducted by Lija, but they were yet again denied for what would have been a well deserved consolation goal by our match Heroine Ruth Debono.
Last note for this match, in the 83rd minute we had a double substitution which saw Naomi Borg who had to stop due to injury being replaced by Dorita Aguis and Ruth Debono being replaced by Simone Daccache in goal.
